Buyer-Fifth Inning - Brokers
Pitch 1 - Advocacy
Do you need an advocate? Are you comfortable with the process? Examine the procedures and protocols and again as with any purchase, exercise caution. Some folks are quite comfortable buying and selling without an agent. You do have choices. Just know that most often you need an agent when you hit a snag...not just for putting up a sign or writing an offer. It is the process of buying and selling a home that most often calls for a professional.
Pitch 2 - Selecting a Broker
If you decide you want an advocate, how do you find one that works for you? There are over 4000 agents in the Charlotte marketplace. Experience, know how, market savvy should top a list. Communication skills are right up there along with understanding fully your family's needs. Listening is the best skill. The market is becoming more sophisticated, so techno savvy is also important.
Pitch 3 - Know-How
Whether you hire a broker or not, knowledge of all the proper legal forms is critical in today’s real estate process. Read them carefully and understand the content.
A broker will go over all of the forms well in advance of needing them...this includes market values, mortgage process, step by step in buying or selling. A good broker continually asks if you have questions and always outlines the next step.
