it is far more important to know people's hearts, than to know all
the codes and regulations." WB |
This is our gift to Warren...
a celebration for him and for his work.
Thank you, Warren. |
From
Warren...
"Intermixed with sketches of
Charlotte’s streets are sketches of the magnificent streets of France,
England, and other European countries. I lived in Fontainebleau, France,
just south of Paris when I was a child, and the influence of that village
on my love for art and my appreciation of a very well planned town was
significant and they remain my passions today. The street I lived on dated
back to the 17th century and had weathered many wars, but still stood
solid, a testament to the builders of that time. The center of town was
about 3 blocks in one direction, passing a stables on the way where my
brothers and I took horseback riding lessons. (It never occurred to me
that it might be a significant zoning violation.) If you walked one block
in the other direction you entered the Fountainebleau Forest, where the
Barbizon School of French painters were frequently found, painting the
forest in “plein air”. These mid-19th century landscape painters,
particularly Corot, have had a major influence on my work as have the
British landscape painters like Constable and Turner." |
