NCAR Mold Task Force Work Ongoing
NCAR president Bill Bass created a Task Force on Mold earlier this year to examine the risks that the presence of mold in properties may pose for real estate licensees, and to make recommendations to reduce or manage those risks. Among other things, the Task Force has identified a need to make good sources of information on mold readily available to NCAR members. This special report is designed to do just that by pulling together several helpful resources.

Managing Mold: What N.C. REALTORS® Need to Know
Under the direction of the Mold Task Force, NCAR published a feature article on the risk of mold in the July 2002 tar heel REALTOR®. The article included mold facts, NAR's and NCREC's positions on mold and resources you can turn to for additional help.

 Environmental Hazards Booklet Addresses Mold
An “Environmental Hazards” booklet prepared by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control provides homeowners and prospective homeowners an overview of some environmental hazards that may be found on residential property. A new section of the booklet addresses mold. Although specifically designed for California consumers, it is a brief, well-written “Q and A” that would be a good source of basic information about mold for agents and consumers anywhere. A copy of the mold section of the booklet is available on the NCAR Web site.

EPA Guide to Mold, Moisture, and Your Home
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has produced a document called "A Brief Guide to Mold, Moisture, and Your Home," that is available on the EPA’s Web site. The Guide contains much of the same information as the Environmental Hazards booklet mentioned above, but focuses to a greater degree on how homeowners and tenants should clean up residential mold problems.

Explore N.C. Dept. of Health Web Page on Mold
The Web site of the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (Epidemiology Section) has a page called “Mold and Human Health” that also contains some very good information about mold, including general recommendations on how someone should go about hiring a mold consultant or contractor.
