South Tryon Street (not Tyson, as on the card).
Charlotte's original main street, Tryon, was the ridgeline artery
named for Royal Governor William Tryon of England, who governed North
Carolina (1765-71) under King George III. Beyond the few blocks of uptown
commercial buildings around the Square (circa 1900), the street was
residential and looked like this on both ends of Tryon Street. Note the
trolley tracks, farm wagons, carriages, snow, mud, and sidewalks.
