I read this article
written by Kanas City Star, columnist Bill Tammeus
published January 20, 2002 in The Charlotte Observer
and thought you all would resonate with his words:
"I've long wondered what it is about dogs that often draws from
us such
devotion, such emotion, such profound attachment...
Part of our bond, I think, has to do with the fact that we ourselves
are
animals- and in some ways not fully domesticated. There is a
wildness left
in our hearts and it is attracted to the wildness deep in the marrow
of our
dogs...However refined and sophisticated we have become, we are
never
terribly far from our animal yearnings, our untamed appetites.
As we keep our dogs from degenerating into their wild pasts, perhaps
their
task is to keep us from giving in to the worst of our own animal
natures,
freeing us to understand more clearly our higher calling as
creatures of
intelligence, heart, spirit, generosity and love." |
